Position Overview
The Claims Handler role entails comprehensive management of claims from initial notification to settlement while evaluating the validity and extent of each claim and detecting any fraudulent activities. The position requires coordinating joint surveys to maintain high standards in customer satisfaction and enhance the Claims & Loss Adjustment process jointly with an in-house team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage claims files thoroughly from start through closure ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Develop and implement strategies aimed at boosting claim processing efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction.
- Understand assigned tasks and any additional client requirements guided by internal protocols.
- Establish and maintain contacts with insured parties, insurers, consignees, and brokers to enable prompt site visits and timely claim resolution.
- Organize and supervise joint surveys for detailed and punctual on-site investigations and damage assessments.
- Lead, train, and mentor cargo surveyor teams, ensuring exemplary performance aligned with company standards.
- Conduct detailed assessments involving evidence gathering, witness interviews, and identifying liable parties.
- Coordinate claim survey activities collaboratively with regional experienced surveyors.
- Provide client reports following corporate quality standards and within agreed timelines.
- Interpret insurance policy wordings and applicable maritime laws to guide claims handling and make informed coverage decisions.
- Employ effective communication and negotiation skills to manage recoveries with third parties while keeping accurate salvage records.
- Set individual performance indicators and promote a culture of high achievement and commitment.
- Contribute actively to realizing organizational business goals.
- Adhere strictly to safety regulations and operational procedures.
- Identify, network, and explore opportunities that foster business expansion.
Candidate Requirements
- A degree in any technical discipline with a minimum of three years' progressive experience in engineering, claims handling, logistics, insurance, or marine cargo inspection.
- Meticulous with a keen observational eye and attention to detail.
- Systematic and investigative in collecting relevant information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficient command of English.
- Effective time management, negotiation aptitude, tactfulness, assertiveness, and persuasiveness.
- Capability to build strong relationships internally and externally is essential.
