Comic Book Creation Instructor (Contract - Onsite)

Position Overview

Concorde Education is looking for experienced independent contractors to provide onsite comic book creation enrichment instruction for K-12 students. These assignments occur at partner schools in Nashville, TN, and involve teaching elementary through high school students in person during after-school hours. Each program typically spans about 10 weeks, with 1 to 4 instructional hours per week.

Instructional Responsibilities

• Lead engaging, developmentally appropriate comic book creation sessions.
• Teach storytelling, character design, illustration, and sequential art through project-based methods.
• Adjust instruction according to student skill levels, available materials, and program goals.
• Guide students in crafting original characters, narratives, scripts, comic panels, and finished comic projects.
• Promote creativity, collaboration, constructive critiques, and artistic confidence.
• Ensure a safe, respectful, inclusive, and age-appropriate learning environment.
• Use professional discretion in selecting instructional content that complies with school policies.
• Communicate any assignment-related concerns to Concorde and school personnel.
• Complete brief session reports after each class.
• Adhere to all relevant school safety, visitor, emergency, and student-protection protocols.

Qualifications

• Preferred minimum of 60 college credits, if required per assignment.
• Experience in illustration, comics, graphic storytelling, visual arts, animation, creative writing, or related fields.
• Background in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or youth activity leadership.
• Strong skills in communication, organization, classroom facilitation, and project management.
• Availability to deliver the agreed schedule and proactively communicate changes.
• Familiarity with traditional and/or digital art tools for comic creation.

Ideal candidates include artists, illustrators, comic creators, graphic novelists, art educators, animators, designers, and relevant creative instructors or students.

Materials and Resources

Art supplies, sketchbooks, markers, colored pencils, digital software, tablets, and instructional guides may be supplied by schools. Contractors may also utilize personal materials as long as they are suitable, legal, safe, and align with site requirements. All materials and examples must comply with copyright laws and school regulations, prioritizing original student work. Purchases requiring reimbursement must be pre-approved in writing.

Compensation and Terms

Compensation depends on assignment specifics and negotiated rates, commonly starting at $50 or more per completed instructional hour. Contractors can propose their rate taking into account preparation, commute, materials, and scheduling needs. Payment is made via direct deposit around the 15th of the month following service completion. This opportunity is for independent contractors; contractors have the discretion to accept or decline assignments.
