Data Center Technician

Overview

Join Microsoft as a Data Center Technician and become integral to deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining core hardware infrastructure supporting leading cloud services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. You will engage in tasks that enhance your technical expertise, mentorship capabilities, and familiarity with data center processes and security protocols, advancing your professional journey within a global, sustainable, and innovative data center network.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose hardware issues and perform efficient troubleshooting in alignment with set procedures, ensuring minimal business interruption by replacing defective components promptly.
• Conduct thorough post-operation quality assessments to verify that equipment setup, grounding, labeling, and cabling meet safety and deployment standards and conform to Network Design Tasks.
• Execute hardware decommissioning for upgrades and refreshes with minimal supervision following established guidelines.
• Effectively report and escalate technology incidents to relevant data center management, leads, and engineering experts.
• Support and guide fellow technicians in handling challenging or complex work assignments.
• Complete role-specific training and gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of experienced technicians.
• Promote a collaborative and productive team environment by sharing updates, participating in meetings, and staying informed of team progress.
• Demonstrate ownership and accountability for service quality and operational excellence within the data center.
• Uphold Microsoft’s culture and values, fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement: High school diploma or equivalent with foundational knowledge of computer hardware and components plus experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• Must meet Microsoft and governmental security screening standards, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check at hiring and biennially thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in IT equipment support or related tech fields.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
