Position Overview
We are seeking a Ganger Mate to work within our Network Operations team based at Crawley. This is a permanent full-time position where you will report directly to the Field Staff Supervisor. The role involves excavation, backfill, and reinstatement tasks related to Faults and Unmetered Connections within the UK Power Networks SPN Distribution area.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all aspects of safety, health, and environmental regulations are followed rigorously.
- Perform risk assessments and maintain safe operational practices at all times.
- Use handheld IT devices to receive job instructions and document site activities accurately.
- Maintain high quality standards in all works according to current procedures.
- Complete tasks in line with guaranteed service standards.
- Safeguard vehicles, tools, equipment, and plant.
- Work independently or lead a two-person excavation team.
- Carry out any additional reasonable duties as required by the company.
- Represent UK Power Networks positively in all situations.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Towing Licence.
- Machine Operator certification.
Desirable:
- NRSWA Units 001-009 certification.
- CSCS Operatives card.
- Emergency First Aid qualification.
- LV Support Person certification.
- Experience working on electricity networks.
- Trench support (deep excavation) training.
- Moling qualification.
- Abrasive wheel certification.
- Sub-station entry authorization.
- Dumper driver license.
Work Scope and Conditions
The candidate will either lead a two-person excavation team for planned projects or be part of a combined excavation and jointing team addressing fault repairs. Travel across the SPN and LPN areas within UK Power Networks is expected. Participation in an out-of-hours standby rota is required.
