Role Overview
North West London Pathology (NWLP), a celebrated NHS pathology network serving multiple NHS Trusts and private entities, seeks a seasoned General Manager to oversee the Blood Science division. This leadership role demands operational direction and business strategy implementation to ensure exemplary patient service quality and achievement of performance metrics aligned with organizational stakeholders' expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full operational accountability for the division’s performance including delivery of safe, patient-centered services with rigorous clinical governance and quality adherence.
- Collaborate with other General Managers and senior leadership to advance divisional initiatives and guide service direction.
- Participate in the Senior Managers on-call rotation to support operational continuity.
- Deliver on set performance targets related to clinical outcomes, efficiency, and service reporting, ensuring clear objectives supported by robust management for ongoing improvement.
- Implement and monitor systems, controls, and risk management to ensure compliance with clinical governance and organizational policies; manage conflicts and complaints promptly in line with Trust standards.
- Foster staff engagement and lead people management best practices, ensuring effective and economical deployment of personnel and alignment with workforce performance benchmarks.
- Manage division finances responsibly per Standing Financial Instructions, ensuring accurate activity recording and cost control consistent with budgets.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive NHS experience within the acute sector with current knowledge of patient service delivery.
- Proven track record at a General Manager level or equivalent in healthcare, demonstrating strategic planning and budget oversight across complex medical and scientific disciplines.
- Strong leadership and influencing capabilities to drive motivation and engagement toward demanding objectives.

Onboarding
Mandatory NWLP induction is scheduled monthly on the first Monday (excluding bank holidays), including laboratory training for relevant staff. New employees must complete the induction within the first week of joining. Scheduled induction start dates for 2026 include 5 October, 2 November, and 7 December. Candidates should plan their notice periods accordingly.
