Overview
Join McGraw Hill's Higher Education team to create a meaningful impact by improving student learning experiences. This role involves collaborating closely with educators and leveraging educational technology to enhance learning outcomes for students nationwide. As an Instructional Designer, you will play a vital role in transforming curriculum strategy and research insights into effective learning content.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft engaging educational experiences based on instructional design models and learning sciences such as backward design, cognitive load theory, Bloom’s taxonomy, and spaced practice.
- Develop course materials including assessments, instructor guides, interactive exercises, and student-facing resources aligned thoroughly with learning objectives.
- Interpret curriculum maps, research data, and author content to create instructional content that ensures coherence and engagement while maintaining accessibility and accuracy.
- Work agilely to prototype, test, and improve educational content rapidly, implementing a fail-fast approach to integrate feedback and uphold instructional quality.
- Utilize and assess AI-driven tools to enhance content creation efficiency and quality, also contributing to best practices for AI use in instructional design.
- Collaborate with curriculum leaders, research analysts, subject matter experts, editors, platform teams, and users to incorporate expert feedback and champion learner-centered content design.
- Support the advancement of scalable instructional design standards, templates, workflows, and documentation to foster innovation, efficiency, and excellence in content development.
Candidate Profile
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is required; degrees or coursework in instructional design, education, learning science, educational technology, or related fields preferred.
- At least three years of experience creating educational or training materials, including design of learning objectives and assessments.
- Strong command of instructional design theories such as ADDIE, backward design, and Universal Design for Learning, with demonstrated application across diverse learning scenarios.
- Proven skills in collaborating with authors, subject matter experts, editors, and cross-functional teams to develop clear, accessible, and pedagogically sound resources for diverse learners.
- Comfortable thriving in dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous work settings using iterative and agile methods to manage changing priorities and feedback loops.
- Preferred experience includes educational publishing, educational technology, higher education or K–12 content creation; familiarity with AI-based content tools, LMS and authoring systems, accessibility standards (WCAG), Universal Design for Learning, and producing materials for multiple formats (digital, print, interactive, video).

The expected salary range is from $62,000 to $85,000 per year. Actual base pay will depend on knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Comprehensive medical and other benefits may be available depending on the position.
