About the organization

The Salvation Army Bridge Services deliver integrated support in residential and community settings for people affected by alcohol and other drug use. Their approach combines evidence-based, holistic care designed to lessen physical, psychological, and social harm and to support recovery in Wellington.

About the role

This position is the first welcoming contact for people approaching The Salvation Army Bridge Drug and Alcohol Residential Programme. You will manage referrals, complete assessments, and work in partnership with whānau and community providers to help people move into the next phase of their recovery journey.

Key purpose of the role

The role focuses on building connection with tāngata whai ora and whānau through the CHIME framework: connection, hope, identity, meaning, and empowerment. The residential programme includes group work, one-to-one support, and whānau-focused work. As intake practitioner, you will be the initial contact point for referrers and service users, helping smooth the transition from their current situation into the Bridge programme. Work may occur in community venues, other services the person is engaged with, probation settings, via AVL, and at the Centre.

Working hours

This is a permanent full-time position of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Part-time arrangements may also be considered for a suitable applicant.

Pay and terms

The role is covered by the social worker pay equity agreement. An experienced practitioner may earn between NZD 68,000 and NZD 90,700 per year. The vacancy may close early if an appropriate candidate is identified.

Candidate profile

You should be adaptable, energetic, self-driven, and committed to the mission of caring for people, transforming lives, and reforming society. The successful applicant must also be able to align with The Salvation Army’s mission and values.

Additional requirements

Under the Children’s Act 2014, applicants with a Schedule 2 conviction must supply an Exemption Certificate for Core Children’s Worker roles, or complete an internal assessment for other Salvation Army positions.

About The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a global evangelical Christian church and human services organisation. Its work is grounded in caring for people, transforming lives, and reforming society through the love of God shown in Jesus.
