Intelligence Specialist

Role Overview

As an Intelligence Specialist within the Naval Intelligence Activity, you will produce detailed reports focusing on the acoustic elements of tactical engagements involving foreign submarines and anti-submarine warfare forces. You will learn and apply analytical techniques to raw acoustic intelligence (ACINT) data, including low frequency analysis and recording (LOFAR) gram interpretation, study oceanographic influences, and perform target motion analysis to support operational missions.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate comprehensive reports on acoustic signals related to tactical events involving foreign submarine and ASW forces.
• Apply and deepen knowledge of acoustic data analysis methods and interpret raw ACINT inputs.
• Obtain familiarity with LOFAR gram analysis, oceanography, and target motion tracking techniques.
• Utilize specialized signal processing hardware and software to maximize acoustic data exploitation.
• Collaborate in producing routine acoustic intelligence products reflecting an accurate tactical picture.
• Support intelligence briefings preparation and deliver insights to various stakeholder groups.

Job Requirements and Conditions

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Travel is possible both within continental US and overseas, including to remote or isolated sites, with ability to travel by military and commercial flights.
• Overtime, night, weekend, and shift work may be necessary based on operational demands.

Qualifications

GG-09 Grade Level Experience: At least 12 months of specialized experience equivalent to GG/GS-07 level, with duties including acoustic analysis of foreign naval ships and submarines, applying Target Motion Analysis methods, developing acoustic tactical reports, and effectively communicating tactical assessments both orally and in writing.

GG-07 Grade Level Experience: Minimum 12 months of specialized experience at the next lower grade level encompassing support in acoustic analysis, basic Target Motion Analysis application under supervision, assisting in report preparation, and preliminary communications of tactical findings.

Education Requirements

• GG-07: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
• GG-09: Master's degree or two years of progressively higher graduate education, or equivalent law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) pertinent to the role.
