Role Overview

We are looking for an Australian-qualified Junior Electrical Engineer with approximately three years of local experience to join our expanding team in South Melbourne. The role involves designing, coordinating, and delivering electrical building services projects in collaboration with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for various project types such as commercial, residential, education, healthcare, and government facilities.
• Develop detailed electrical drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Design and coordinate power distribution, lighting (including emergency lighting), communications, security, and fire detection systems.
• Carry out site inspections, surveys, and assessments to understand project needs and constraints.
• Perform electrical load calculations and equipment selection tasks.
• Ensure all designs adhere to the National Construction Code (NCC), relevant Australian Standards, and clients' criteria.
• Collaborate effectively with architectural, mechanical, hydraulic, civil, and structural teams to coordinate electrical services.
• Participate in project meetings and liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Provide technical support throughout construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
• Review and assure quality of project documentation to ensure compliance and project success.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a recognized Australian university.
• Minimum 3 years of local work experience in a similar junior engineering role.
• Proven expertise in electrical building services design.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards, NCC, and electrical engineering fundamentals.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office suite.
• Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work efficiently within multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills

• Membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
• Experience in designing lighting, power systems, fire detection, security, and communications systems.
• Prior work on projects in education, healthcare, commercial, residential, or government sectors.
• Familiarity with electrical analysis software such as ETAP.
