Role Overview

We are seeking a Junior Post Engineer to join our Post Engineering team based in Vancouver. The ideal candidate possesses practical knowledge of post-production, AV, or VFX environments and is eager to advance their technical engineering expertise within a top-tier animation studio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complex environments including review rooms, theaters, and multi-channel audiovisual systems.
  • Operate and support Q-SYS based room control and digital signal processing (DSP) systems.
  • Maintain and understand SDR and HDR color pipelines used during reviews and screenings.
  • Provide Tier 1 troubleshooting and support for editorial suites (Avid Media Composer), story and review rooms, theaters, and audio suites (Avid Pro Tools).
  • Diagnose and resolve common issues related to Avid Media Composer, Avid Pro Tools, Autodesk RV, Q-SYS systems, playback equipment, operator stations, and peripherals.
  • Validate audio/video signal flows and KVM paths; escalate complex issues appropriately.
  • Manage setup, operation, and teardown for internal screenings, dailies, production reviews, external screenings, and Q&A sessions.
  • Operate Xenon digital cinema projectors and room automation systems ensuring accurate color space and dynamic range compliance.
  • Collaborate with Production, Editorial, Facilities, and vendors to ensure timely and smooth event execution.
  • Support daily operations of media and review systems in animation and VFX pipelines and assist with routine maintenance and health checks of theaters, review rooms, and editorial systems.
  • Document configuration details, standard procedures, and troubleshooting steps using platforms like Jira and Confluence.
  • Work calmly and professionally during high-pressure live events and provide after-hours support as needed, including evenings and weekends.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 to 3 years experience in AV, post production, broadcast, or VFX/animation environments supporting theaters, review rooms, or edit suites.
  • Thorough understanding of animation or VFX post-production workflows including editorial processes, reviews, dailies, and deliveries.
  • Hands-on expertise with Xenon digital cinema projectors (operation, calibration, troubleshooting) and Q-SYS or comparable room automation/DSP systems.
  • Proficiency with Avid Media Composer and Avid Pro Tools in networked/shared environments as well as Autodesk RV and other VFX playback tools.
  • Strong foundation in audio/video signal flow management, routing, patching, and monitoring.
  • Basic networking knowledge including IP addressing, connectivity, and diagnostic tools.
  • Familiarity with multiple operating systems, especially Rocky Linux; additional experience with macOS and Windows is advantageous.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Tier 1 OS and application issues with a customer-focused communication style.
  • Attention to detail, capability to follow and enhance documentation and procedures.
  • Composure in live, time-sensitive scenarios and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as production demands.
  • Collaborative attitude with enthusiasm for continued professional growth in post engineering.

  • Experience with color workflows, color management, and calibrated displays/projectors.
