Position Overview
The University of Florida seeks a skilled Locksmith II to perform a variety of locksmith duties. This role involves installation, maintenance, and repair of different building locks, including cylindrical, unit, mortise, rim locks, and reload cylinders, as well as creating keys for authorized personnel. The locksmith will also repair locks on furniture and containers, and provide lock picking services when keys are lost.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, adjust, maintain, and repair exit door hardware such as hinges, door closers, panic hardware, ADA openers, door hold opens, coordinators, and mechanical/electronic access controls and key boxes to ensure building accessibility.
- Maintain the University's Master Key Systems by accurately recording hardware changes, installing new locks, and repairing or reloading lock cylinders.
- Support facility renovations and new construction by interpreting blueprints and schematics to determine locking system needs, recommending appropriate products, and overseeing installation of locking devices.
- Interact and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, contractors, project managers, and engineers regarding keying databases, locksmith procedures, and new construction projects.
- Respond to emergency lock repairs as necessary, including after-hours and standby requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Completion of an approved locksmith apprenticeship program; OR high school diploma (or equivalent) plus two years of relevant locksmith experience; vocational/technical training may substitute equivalently for experience.
- Possession of a Class E Florida driver's license.
- Ability to use computer systems and sophisticated locksmith equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Capability to manage and maintain large master keying systems.
- Good customer service skills, both in-person and over the phone.
- Willingness to attend training seminars within and outside the state.
- Must pass background check and post-offer physical assessment.
Work Schedule and Conditions
- Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, totaling 40 hours per week.
- Employee must be available for emergencies, swing shifts, and on-call or standby assignments as required.
Compensation
The expected hourly wage is $22.50.
