Project Overview

The Lower Thames Crossing represents one of the UK's most important infrastructure projects, featuring the country's longest road tunnel to connect Kent and Essex. The initiative involves substantial groundwork, geotechnical engineering, foundation work, soil mixing, and extensive civil engineering, delivered through a collaborative alliance of industry experts.

Role Summary

We are recruiting a Methods Engineer to enhance our expanding engineering team supporting the Lower Thames Crossing project. Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, you will devise practical construction approaches, detailed work plans, and technical resolutions for advanced ground engineering and foundation tasks. Your contributions will span from design review to project mobilization and initial construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop effective construction methodologies and sequences tailored for ground engineering and specialized foundation works.
• Analyze design documents, including drawings and specifications, to devise pragmatic construction plans.
• Create method statements, site layouts, construction sequences, and comprehensive supporting technical materials.
• Evaluate build feasibility, site limitations, construction interactions, and associated risks.
• Offer ongoing technical guidance to project teams during mobilization and building stages.
• Resolve emerging technical and operational issues as project conditions evolve.
• Support tender teams with technical proposals, productivity analysis, and planning.
• Assist in selecting suitable machinery, equipment, and construction processes.
• Participate in value engineering efforts and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Document lessons learned to enhance future project delivery.
• Implement digital engineering initiatives, including BIM modeling, digital data handling, performance tracking, and reporting.
• Maintain project data integrity following company standards.
• Ensure all methodologies and technical documentation comply with project specifications, standards, and company policies.
• Promote safe, efficient, and quality-focused project execution through meticulous engineering planning.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• Between 5 to 8 years of experience in ground engineering, geotechnical construction, or specialist foundation work.
• Practical involvement with diaphragm walls, piling, ground improvement, soil mixing, or equivalent specialist techniques.
• Proven track record supporting both tendering and live project teams.
• In-depth knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, productivity, and plant equipment selection.
• Prior site experience enabling the development of practical, buildable engineering solutions.

Technical Skills

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports accurately.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience applying BIM methodologies and related software tools.
• Competency with CAD or similar engineering design software.
• Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization platforms is an advantage.
• Understanding of temporary works and construction risk management is desirable.
