Network Engineer - DWDM Expert

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Network Operations Engineer specializing in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) to join our team in Dublin, Ireland. This contract role involves working on extensive and complex global network infrastructures, focusing on design, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of optical transport technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, construct, and deploy our worldwide DWDM networks to meet evolving customer demand.
• Develop scalable network designs and operational processes for our optical infrastructure.
• Collaborate actively with other networking teams to ensure network integrity and compliance with standards.
• Implement and review system changes on optical network elements.
• Troubleshoot challenging technical network issues, providing innovative and effective solutions daily.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 4 years of professional experience in the telecommunications industry, specifically within optical network operations and support.
• Proficient with optical planning and modeling tools; demonstrated experience in large-scale DWDM network rollouts.
• Comprehensive understanding of IP networking principles and key protocols.
• Expertise working with major DWDM equipment platforms such as Ciena, Infinera, and Cisco.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience with router platforms including Cisco and Juniper, along with their supervisory and line card modules.
• Excellent capabilities in network analysis and troubleshooting, ensuring robust network performance.
• Familiarity with a variety of protocols and technologies including DWDM, T1/DS1, DS3, SONET (OC3, OC48), Ethernet standards (802.2/3, 802.1d VLANs/STP), IPv4 & IPv6, TCP internals and flow control, BGP, OSPF, HSRP/GLBP, PIMv2, IGMP, LDP, TACACS, IPSEC & VPNs, netflow, DNS, and HTTP.
