Rust Backend Developer - Remote Contract

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Rust Backend Developer to join our client's team remotely. This role is a contract position focused on designing, developing, and enhancing robust backend APIs that support advanced AI research initiatives. You will collaborate closely with a highly skilled engineering group to improve developer tools for the next generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, develop, and fine-tune RESTful and GraphQL API endpoints to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Implement strong data validation, robust error handling, and enforce best practices in API security within backend services.
• Plan and manage database schema updates, migrations, and optimizations to improve performance.
• Participate in testing new AI-driven models integrated with Cursor, providing detailed feedback including incident reports, bug diagnostics, and screenshots.
• Contribute actively in focused 4-day testing periods aimed at understanding AI model impacts on developer workflows.
• Engage collaboratively with the AI research team via dedicated communication channels to share insights and suggest enhancements.
• Complete comprehensive post-testing surveys to provide valuable input on AI model performance and user experience.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• At least five years of professional experience as a backend developer specializing in Rust programming.
• Strong proficiency in building and supporting RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• In-depth knowledge of backend data validation techniques, error handling protocols, and API security standards.
• Experience with database schema design, migration procedures, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on familiarity with AI coding tools, particularly Cursor, is highly advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for documenting incidents and bugs clearly and precisely.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-moving, confidential, and collaborative remote work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrable contributions to open-source projects, exhibiting active involvement such as GitHub stars or meaningful contributions.
• Experience in creating or assessing innovative developer tools and experimental workflows.
