Scrum Master II

Position Overview

PhoenixTeam is looking for a Scrum Master to guide and support cross-functional teams engaged in federal government projects focused on IT modernization and mortgage technology. This role is critical in facilitating Agile execution, enhancing team performance, and fostering collaboration between business and technical stakeholders to deliver secure, high-quality solutions within complex, regulated environments.

Work Conditions

• Fully remote work location within the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and run Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Coach Scrum teams and stakeholders on Agile principles, Scrum methodologies, responsibility, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with Product Owners to enhance backlog readiness, clarify user stories, refine acceptance criteria, and enforce prioritization discipline.
• Proactively identify and remove blockers affecting sprint objectives, release schedules, team efficiency, or solution quality; escalate where necessary.
• Monitor delivery progress using Agile metrics including velocity, burndown charts, cycle times, sprint goal completion, and team capacity.
• Support geographically dispersed teams with workflow tools like Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
• Coordinate dependencies, manage risks and blockers, and set expectations among business and technical stakeholders.
• Advocate for continuous improvement and ensure disciplined project delivery aligned with federal contracting standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years' experience as a Scrum Master, Agile delivery lead, or equivalent in software or platform team environments.
• Proven track record in facilitating Agile ceremonies and mentoring cross-functional teams on Scrum practices.
• Experience supporting initiatives related to IT modernization, application deployment, systems integration, digital transformations, or technology implementations.
• Proficient with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or other workflow management systems.
• Excellent facilitation, communication, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Capability to organize tasks, manage risks, and maintain momentum across remote teams with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience working in structured, regulated environments requiring detailed documentation and accountability typical of federal contracts.
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Project Management, or related disciplines; equivalent professional experience considered.

Preferred Credentials

• Agile certifications including Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM I), SAFe Scrum Master, or similar credentials.
• Background in federal government contracting, public sector team support, or other compliance-regulated settings.
• Familiarity with mortgage-related technologies, lending, servicing, document management, or compliance-driven processes.
• Experience or knowledge related to DevSecOps, release management, quality assurance, or scaled Agile methodologies.

Success Metrics in First 90 Days

• Establish a stable Scrum rhythm that enhances team focus, accountability, and sprint delivery.
• Enhance backlog preparation and sprint planning through effective collaboration with Product Owners and team leadership.
• Cultivate trust within technical teams and management by promptly resolving obstacles and delivering actionable coaching.
