Software Engineer - Automotive Finance Engineering

Overview

Join Scotiabank's dedicated and high-performing Automotive Finance Engineering team based in Toronto, Ontario. This full-time onsite role offers the chance to contribute to the creation of cloud-ready backend services, APIs, and front-end components that drive financing, leasing, and dealer ecosystem workflows for both Retail and Commercial divisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code employing technologies such as .NET, C#, Java, and React.
• Design, build, and improve REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven software elements.
• Engage in comprehensive code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and continuous software enhancement.
• Document software features, architectural designs, and technical decision processes.
• Adopt secure coding standards and uphold high engineering quality and practices.
• Deploy solutions on Microsoft Azure utilizing Azure DevOps pipelines and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
• Monitor application performance using tools such as Splunk and Dynatrace.
• Collaborate closely with SRE, Security, and Cloud Engineering teams to maintain reliability, compliance, and operational best practices.
• Create and validate APIs with Swagger/OpenAPI specifications, Postman, and automated testing frameworks.
• Develop backend or API components with Node.js when required.
• Integrate with internal systems, dealer platforms, and third-party partner services.
• Implement event-driven technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ aligned with squad objectives.
• Manage SQL databases, stored procedures, and cloud-based data services support.
• Partner with analytics teams to support data-centric features.
• Advance a customer-centric mindset contributing to dependable, top-quality solutions.

Required Skills and Experience

• A minimum of 3 to 5 years in hands-on software engineering roles.
• Proficiency with development in .NET, C#, Java, React, SQL, and Node.js environments.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps (TFS), Visual Studio/VS Code, API development tools like Postman and Swagger/OpenAPI, and monitoring platforms such as Splunk and Dynatrace.
• Deep understanding of RESTful API design, microservices, and distributed system architecture.
• Experience with version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native software development concepts.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture using tools like Kafka and RabbitMQ.
• Background working with Azure Cloud services including App Services, Functions, and Service Bus.
• Experience or interest in automotive finance or financial services industry is advantageous.
• Interest in AI/ML, productivity-enhancing developer tools, or intelligent automation techniques.
• Experience modernizing legacy codebases or systems.
