Role Overview

The Traffic Control Person is a full-time, on-site position based in Vernon, British Columbia. The primary duty is to direct both vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around work zones using various traffic control devices, hand signals, and signage, ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Daily responsibilities include setting up and removing traffic control equipment, monitoring traffic patterns, adapting to evolving road and site conditions, and communicating effectively with drivers, supervisors, and colleagues. The role also involves completing basic paperwork, following safety protocols diligently, and promptly reporting any hazards or incidents. This job requires being outdoors in all kinds of weather while maintaining a professional and vigilant stance.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proficiency in Traffic Control and Road Traffic management to safely direct traffic around job sites.
• Good understanding of Traffic Management principles to facilitate safe, efficient, and regulation-compliant site operations.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with drivers, coworkers, and supervisors, as well as accurately following instructions.
• Basic knowledge of Operations Management concerning the setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control arrangements according to site plans.
• Possession of valid traffic control certification or willingness to obtain it, alongside awareness of local traffic laws and safety protocols.
• Capability to stand for long periods, exposure to diverse weather conditions, and ability to manage equipment such as signs, cones, and barricades.
• Access to reliable transportation for traveling to various job locations around Vernon, BC, with flexibility to work varying shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
• Prior experience in traffic control, construction, or similar fields is advantageous, as is knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.
