Position Overview

Middle Seat is looking for a detail-focused Accounting Associate to become part of our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Director, this role manages daily accounting operations ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial records.

Role Responsibilities

  • Handle accounts receivable: invoicing clients regularly, tracking payment statuses, recording deposits, following up on overdue payments, and resolving billing issues.
  • Manage accounts payable: vendor onboarding into Ramp, invoice approval and coding, maintaining vendor records, reconciling statements, and timely payment processing including 1099 submissions.
  • Payroll posting and allocation to the general ledger by class.
  • Support month-end close by reconciling bank and credit card accounts, preparing journal entries, and maintaining general ledger for revenues and expenditures.
  • Monitor accounting communications and respond or escalate as needed.
  • Assist with financial reporting preparation, tax filings, budget tracking, and updating fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile paid media balances and prepare refunds for inactive accounts.
  • Conduct transaction research, support ad hoc reporting, and suggest process improvements.
  • Communicate judiciously to keep the Finance Director informed.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills with precise attention to detail.
  • Professionalism in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Preferred experience in startup or growth environments.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities within deadlines.
  • Capacity to provide financial administrative support across the organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; alternatively, an Associate’s degree with relevant experience.
  • Proficiency preferred in Quickbooks Online, Justworks, Bill.com, and Ramp.
  • Required skills in Google Sheets and Excel.

Work Conditions

Full-time remote role based in Washington, D.C., with occasional travel for events. May involve work outside standard hours for meetings or organizational events. This role is not unionized.

Compensation

The position offers a salary ranging from $65,000 to $75,000 annually.
