Position Summary
The Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) in aviation plays a critical role by conducting Maintenance Test Flights (MTF), Maintenance Operational Checks (MOC), and performing real-time troubleshooting and verification to confirm aircraft airworthiness following extensive maintenance activities such as disassembly, repair, or modification of systems or components. This includes evaluating aircraft power availability, engine performance, and system functionality in alignment with technical guidelines and standards. The pilot executes both general and limited test flights when ground diagnostics are insufficient, carries out pre-flight and general aircraft readiness inspections, and safely manages all phases of flight according to official manuals. Additionally, the MTP is responsible for thorough completion of all relevant maintenance documentation and mathematical computations related to aircraft performance and landing configurations. The role involves leading briefing sessions to coordinate among flight crew and maintenance teams during MTP operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, align, and integrate maintenance test flight activities to meet operational readiness targets as per contract obligations.
- Develop and establish maintenance flight protocols, procedures, and reporting mechanisms to provide real-time insight into aircraft readiness.
- Coordinate with production control to set daily goals and prioritize tasks to support readiness objectives.
- Collaborate within maintenance quality control frameworks to ensure compliance with inspection standards and alignment with supply chain management.
- Conduct investigations and analyses regarding test flights and maintenance support functions, reporting findings to senior management.
- Participate in daily maintenance meetings to synchronize activities requiring MTP involvement.
- Coordinate maintenance flight operations with base management to ensure effective support.
- Ensure all test flight operations adhere strictly to safety regulations and procedures.
- Assist in Downed Aircraft Recovery Team processes and procedures under the guidance of the Aviation Manager.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Production Control Manager.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development’s Qualification Verification Program (QVP) is mandatory for employment authorization in Saudi Arabia.
- Associate degree is required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience as a Maintenance Examiner is advantageous.
- Possession of FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate is preferred.
- FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) certificate is a preferred credential.
- A minimum of two years' experience as a Maintenance Test Pilot for AH64, OH58D, or Mission Enhanced Little Bird (MELB) helicopters.
- Compliance with Army Regulation 95-20 standards.
Skills, Certifications, and Abilities
- Valid Commercial Rotorcraft Helicopter Pilot License with Instrument Rating.
- Qualification as a Maintenance Test Pilot for AH-6i, AH64, OH58D, or MELB helicopter series.
- Successful completion of Army or FAA Class II Flight Physical at hiring and annually thereafter.
- Proficiency in using electronic technical manuals, aircraft maintenance recordkeeping systems, and supporting documentation.
- Capability with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to professionally interface with customers and internal teams.
- Possession of a valid US driver’s license and passport.
- Passage of an overseas deployment physical at the time of hire.
