About Disney Television Animation

Disney Television Animation (DTVA) is a renowned producer with over forty years of experience creating engaging kids and family content. As part of The Walt Disney Company, DTVA delivers diverse animation styles including traditional 2D, rig-based 2D, CG for preschool and premium audiences, as well as stop-motion productions. Their mission is to align artistic talent with the appropriate productions, ensuring high-quality storytelling worldwide.

Role Overview

The Animation Checker position plays a critical role in maintaining quality control by ensuring production materials are accurately prepared and delivered to vendor studios. This responsibility helps minimize post-production expenses by verifying all content is consistent and complete.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify that all files, media, and relevant information are accurate, complete, and consistent before shipment.
  • Use Storyboard Pro to review storyboards before production, checking for missing or incorrect scene descriptions, character actions, camera movements, effects, and special notes for each scene panel.
  • Coordinate with Directors and Production teams to incorporate revised storyboard panels from animatics, or with Editors to update animatics following Director confirmations.
  • Ensure that scene numbers, action notes, camera motions, effects, character names, special notes, hook-ups, and lighting sources are correctly documented on storyboards and X-sheets, and verify consistency among storyboards, X-sheets, and animatics.
  • Confirm character reactions, expressions, and movements align with standard walk/run cycle sheets where applicable.
  • Review lip sync assignments on X-sheets to ensure correct mouth charts are used when required.
  • Validate that scene cuts match the animatic, consulting with Directors and Timing Directors for corrections as needed.
  • Check all X-sheets for accurate camera moves, actions, lip sync, character names, abbreviations, hook-ups or effects, and proper scene and panel numbering.
  • Prepare the final route sheet using the Insight system.
  • Input final footage and deliver the finalized materials to Production for vendor shipment.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Proficient with Mac and PC operating systems.
  • Experience using Storyboard Pro software.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to quickly master proprietary software such as Insight.
  • Familiarity with Traditional 2D, Harmony, and CG animation pipelines, either through experience or training, is preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively on multiple tasks simultaneously, meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptability to accept guidance and welcome changes in processes.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
