About the Company
BuzzFeed, Inc. is a digital media company known for creating content across food, news, pop culture, and commerce. Founded in 2006, it focuses on producing trusted, brand-safe entertainment and news while aiming to make online content more inclusive, empathetic, and creative. The company continues to bring in new founders and creators as part of that mission.
Role Overview
The New York post-production team is seeking an Assistant Video Editor to support video workflows from media ingest through final delivery. This position centers on preparing footage for editing in Adobe Premiere, handling common post-production troubleshooting, and supporting quality control and exports when needed. Some on-location work may be required.
What You Will Do
- Work from the company campus in an on-site setup.
- Support live productions when assigned and act as the on-set media manager.
- Ingest, transcode, organize, and archive media files.
- Maintain accurate notes and records for footage, ingests, and edit preparation.
- Prepare media for editing, sync multicam footage, build string-outs and assembly cuts, and add markers.
- Conform assets for vendor handoff, including sound and color deliverables as well as client-facing files.
- Partner with editors on larger projects by handling dailies, selects, and workflow support.
- Make basic technical edits and updates within projects and motion graphics when requested.
- Edit lightly supervised short-form content.
- Assist post-production coordinators with asset and production material management.
- Help keep production and post-production teams aligned through clear communication.
- Share ideas that improve post workflows and efficiency.
- Work with production technology teams to fix technical issues.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 3 years of professional experience in assistant editing for digital content.
- Strong working knowledge of Mac OS, Google Workspace, and Adobe Creative Cloud tools, especially Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Media Encoder, and After Effects.
- Comfort using common video codecs, file formats, and timecode systems.
- Ability to give and receive feedback in a small-team setting.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and finish assigned tasks without close supervision.
- Flexibility to handle changing timelines, priorities, and deliverables while juggling multiple tasks.
- Solid understanding of post-production and production workflows, tools, and equipment.
- Useful but not required: familiarity with social media and digital video platforms.
- Positive, proactive team mindset with the ability to help move projects from ingest through delivery.
- Helpful to have experience with DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Audition for color and audio finishing.
- Helpful to have experience working behind a camera and with lighting and sound design.
- Helpful to have experience using proxy-based workflows, remote workflows, SANs, and MAMs.
- Helpful to have experience creating and integrating graphics or visual effects.
Compensation and Terms
The pay rate for this role is $250 per day. Compensation may be adjusted based on the selected candidate’s background, skills, certifications, and location. The role is non-union.
Equal Opportunity
The employer maintains an inclusive hiring policy and considers all qualified applicants without discrimination based on age, race, gender, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or other protected status.
What You Can Expect
- A supportive and inclusive workplace where your contribution is valued.
- Opportunities to grow personally and professionally through work experience, internal learning resources, employee groups, and more.
