Role Overview

Join Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's Analytics Center of Excellence (ACoE) as a Business Analytics Analyst and leverage your expertise in exploratory data analysis and statistical techniques to drive impactful business decisions. This position provides a unique opportunity to identify which programs to implement by analyzing data, solving problems, and uncovering new avenues for growth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Convert business concepts into testable hypotheses under guidance.
  • Assist in developing statistical analyses and crafting data visualizations aligned with overall analysis plans.
  • Explore and interpret data trends to assess program effectiveness and business hypotheses.
  • Query and manipulate both structured and unstructured datasets to support evaluations.
  • Translate analytical findings into practical insights to inform strategic business decisions.
  • Utilize approved generative AI tools for coding assistance, documentation, and summarizations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.

Additional Duties

  • Under general supervision, perform descriptive analytics, construct savings models, and evaluate program results to identify potential opportunities.
  • Support the formulation of actionable hypotheses from business ideas.
  • Produce statistical analyses and visualizations with supervision, adhering to analysis plans.
  • Conduct data pattern recognition for hypothesis testing related to business and program initiatives.
  • Assist in compiling analysis outcomes into actionable business insights.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, Informatics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related discipline is mandatory; master's or doctoral degree preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in programming with at least one language.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector is advantageous.
  • Foundational understanding of healthcare claims processing and health system operations.
  • Strong analytical thinking, organization, and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Basic familiarity with evaluation study designs (e.g., case-control, cohort) and methods to adjust for population differences (e.g., regression analysis, propensity score matching).
  • Knowledge of statistical testing methods including ANOVA, t-tests, and chi-squared tests.
  • Competent with Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Effective communication skills to present findings to all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within teams.
