Position Overview
The Cashier role at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank's branch involves managing all cash-related transactions and operations adhering to both internal and regulatory banking standards. The position requires accurate record-keeping and daily end-of-day system reconciliations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure prompt and precise processing of cash transactions and account-related operations contributing to smooth branch functioning.
- Oversee cash handling functions including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, dividend warrants, pay orders, and similar instruments within authorized withdrawal limits, providing acknowledgements.
- Disburse cash for withdrawal requests and collect deposits by verifying deposit challans.
- Collect repayments according to EMI schedules and log corresponding entries in banking systems.
- Maintain registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and assets, and forward requisition forms to the Regional Head Office.
- Conduct daily cash tally aligning transactions with vouchers and report findings in the branch's daily end report.
- Jointly manage the safekeeping and operations of the branch vault alongside the operations officer.
- Engage with customers during cash transactions, comprehend their banking needs, and seek opportunities for cross-selling bank products and services.
Service Excellence
- Deliver courteous, efficient assistance addressing customer needs with high-quality service.
- Promptly escalate customer inquiries and complaints to the appropriate authority.
- Educate customers about their repayment schedules, contact points for clarifications, and encourage use of alternative banking channels.
Operational Duties
- Count and verify cash at the start and close of day prior to vaulting procedures.
- Safeguard branch cash, keys, and valuables jointly with the Assistant Branch Manager, ensuring smooth departmental cash operations.
- Ensure compliance with turnaround time standards and banking regulations for all cashier and cash management tasks.
- Verify loan repayment transactions and validate customer authenticity during withdrawals.
- Audit accuracy of cash deposit slips and update bank passbooks when necessary.
- Prepare cash bundles with appropriate note slips for currency chest deposits.
Learning and Performance
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of bank products, regulatory policies, and customer identification principles.
- Participate in certification and mandatory training organized by the operations department.
- Ensure completion of performance management activities including goal setting and reviews within stipulated timelines.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- Undergraduate degree in any field, preferably Finance or Commerce.
- 1 to 2 years’ experience handling high-volume cash operations.
- Experience entering data in financial systems or ERP modules and consolidating accounting information.
- Competent in cash handling and accounting, with the ability to detect counterfeit notes.
- Proficient computer skills; relevant software training will be provided.
- Strong numerical ability and capacity to multitask efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, customer service focus, effective communication, and listening abilities.
Key Interactions
Collaborate internally with regional operations, FCU officers, service quality executives, and externally with neighboring banks, cash management firms, and BC agents.
Additional Information
This is a full-time onsite position located at the branch in Bhuj, Gujarat, India. Reporting is to the Branch Operation Officer under the Branch Banking department at grade AM-II level.
