Job description

Role overview

Stena Line is hiring a Chief Officer for the Stena Britannica in Harwich, England. This is a full-time permanent position within the Deck department, offering strong work-life balance and opportunities to progress.

Key duties

  • Oversee the areas assigned by the Master and remain directly accountable to the Master for carrying out your duties.
  • Perform duties within the vessel’s emergency organisation as required.
  • Complete onboard maintenance tasks in line with the Planned Maintenance Program.
  • Stay fully conversant with the ship’s operating and navigation procedures.
  • Identify risks to the vessel, people and environment, and put suitable safeguards in place.
  • Inform the Senior Master about any incident, accident, injury, near miss, hazard, or defect in machinery or equipment, especially safety equipment.
  • Understand and follow the relevant procedures and requirements in the SMS stored in the DOCMAP system.
  • Take an active interest in the responsibilities above your rank so you can step up confidently and remain hands-on.

  • STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
  • STCW Personal Survival Techniques
  • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • Master’s Unlimited COC, which must be held at the time of application

Preferred certifications

  • Crowd Management Training
  • Passenger Safety Training
