Job description

About SYSTRA

SYSTRA is a global engineering and consultancy group focused on public transport and sustainable mobility. The organisation employs more than 10,300 people and works to deliver safer, more sustainable transport systems that help connect communities and improve access to work, education, and leisure. For 65 years, it has supported cities and regions through every stage of infrastructure and transport development, from early design through testing, deployment, and maintenance. SYSTRA operates in more than 80 countries and earns 74% of its revenue internationally. Through its newer services, it also helps clients navigate digital, environmental, and energy transition challenges to shape the mobility of the future.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Commercial Director, this position carries overall responsibility for contractual, commercial, and control activities across the project. The role covers payment certificates, variations excluding technical scope changes, claims, and notices linked to contract performance. It also involves setting up and managing contract administration procedures, including change tracking, variation order logs, dispute logs, and records of employer claims or contra-charges.

Key Duties

The Contract Manager will lead contractual correspondence, review outgoing letters and meeting minutes that may have contractual implications, and prepare replies to the contractor’s contractual communications. The role also includes monitoring contractor guarantees and insurances, including any contract-driven increases or reductions in value.

In addition, the position oversees the work of supporting team members to ensure accurate commercial control and reporting.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Direct and review the Quantity Surveyor’s work so that completed work is measured accurately and on time for progress payments, including assessment of work completed against provisional sums.
  • Track project progress and programme compliance through the Senior Planning Engineer to support variation and claims administration, as well as internal and external reporting.
  • Maintain cost records and risk registers carefully to strengthen variation and claims management and to provide reliable information for reporting.

Professional Profile

The ideal candidate should bring at least 10 years of relevant experience on comparable projects and demonstrate the ability to work independently in a commercial or contracts management capacity. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Experience in procurement under multiple forms of contract for major rail transit or transport projects is required, and railway systems experience will be considered an added advantage. GCC experience is beneficial. Professional credentials such as MRICS or FRICS are required, while MCIArb or FCIArb is an advantage. A master’s degree in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution is desirable.

Equal Opportunity

SYSTRA states that it is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all eligible candidates.
