Job description
Role overview
Meta is looking for a Data Engineer focused on Product Analytics to help power data-driven decisions across its family of apps and products, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Reality Labs, and Threads. In this position, you’ll work on large-scale datasets that influence experiences for billions of people and millions of businesses, while also supporting internal teams and employee-facing initiatives.
You’ll partner with software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to create scalable data solutions that improve growth, strategy, and user experience. The role sits within a strong data engineering community that emphasizes learning, technical growth, and long-term career development.
What you'll do
You will own and improve data systems, create reliable data artifacts, and help teams answer important product and business questions. Your work will combine technical design, analytical thinking, and communication to turn complex data into clear recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Own and run data warehouse planning for a product or product area, focusing on clearly defined business problems.
- Determine what data is needed for a business question, add the logging required to capture it, and coordinate with infrastructure teams to investigate and resolve issues.
- Work closely with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand information needs and present insights in a useful format.
- Apply data controls to protect privacy, support security and compliance, maintain quality, and ensure dependable operations for your areas of ownership.
- Create, deploy, and maintain new data models and visualizations in production using standard development tools.
- Independently build and launch data extraction, transformation, and loading workflows, while helping others write efficient queries.
- Support live production processes and improve them with minimal direction.
- Set and manage service-level agreements for the datasets you own.
- Use data to support product direction, identify opportunities, and help solve emerging challenges.
- Communicate findings as clear, persuasive narratives that influence partners and support decisions.
Requirements
- Currently holds, or is actively working toward, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, another relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience; the degree must be completed before starting at Meta.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Programming experience in Python.
- Familiarity with database systems.
- Ability to secure work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
- Curious, self-motivated, and analytical, with a strong interest in exploring data.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-moving environment.
- Experience working with people across teams and organizations.
- Ability to use AI tools to improve workflows and deliver measurable gains such as better efficiency or quality.
- Ability to follow responsible AI practices, including risk checks, bias reduction, and quality/accuracy review.
- Ongoing interest in building AI skills such as prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration, and staying current with new AI technologies.
