Job description
Position Overview
The Database Administrator will oversee the management and maintenance of ORACLE and MS SQL database platforms at Telecel Ghana in Accra, ensuring operational stability and performance of Telecel’s database environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, configure, and support database environments including servers, local services, and Datacentre DB infrastructure to meet daily business requirements.
- Offer technical decision-making and expertise concerning database platforms and related environments.
- Support testing and deployment of new database components, providing Level 1, 2, and 3 technical assistance across the database estate.
- Provide consulting on requirements gathering, specification, design, development, and integration of complex database and system projects.
- Prepare business case justifications and cost-benefit analyses for IT database expenditures and initiatives.
- Lead deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrades, and support for all IT database systems.
- Investigate and resolve escalated issues in database environments, allocating adequate technical and personnel resources for solutions.
- Review testing, integration, maintenance, and solutions by less experienced personnel to assure accuracy and appropriateness.
- Establish and maintain database principles, standards, and strategies that satisfy user and organizational needs.
- Coordinate periodic maintenance and upgrade schedules for database systems.
- Collaborate with key vendors to understand technical roadmaps and integrate these into long-range planning alongside senior IT leadership.
- Assist with backup and restoration procedures for system databases.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in database administration, with at least two years in a technical management role.
- Two to three years’ hands-on experience supporting MS SQL and Oracle databases.
- Experience with database clustering technologies for two to three years.
- Familiarity with Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) for a duration of two to three years.
- Strong general knowledge of IT systems and technological environments.
