Overview
The role of EHS Supervisor is crucial in managing safety aspects within tunneling project sites. The position involves vigilant on-site monitoring, safety compliance enforcement, and detailed documentation to ensure a hazard-free working environment underground.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular inspections around tunneling zones and shafts to promptly detect hazards like unstable rock, electrical dangers, or tripping hazards.
- Lead daily safety meetings (toolbox talks) with the workforce focusing on specific risks related to the daily operations such as segment placement or maintenance of tunnel boring machines.
- Monitor and enforce strict adherence to Personal Protective Equipment protocols, placing emphasis on respiratory gear due to dust in tunnels.
- Conduct periodic atmospheric assessments to monitor gas concentrations (oxygen, methane, carbon monoxide) and evaluate ventilation within confined underground areas.
- Manage and verify Permit-to-Work documentation especially for risky tasks including welding and heavy lifting within tunnel environments.
- Keep comprehensive daily records of safety inspections, near-miss incidents, and any site corrective measures taken.
- Support the organization and execution of emergency drills focused on fire safety and underground evacuation procedures.

This role requires on-site presence at the project location in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Active participation in safety enforcement and emergency preparedness is essential.
