Job description
Role overview
This opportunity is shared through a hiring partner that manages the application review and the next stages of the process. The employer is seeking an Employee Relations Specialist in Canada to help maintain a workplace that is fair, respectful, and aligned with legal and policy requirements. The role is remote, with primary coverage for Eastern Canada, and requires strong fluency in both English and French.
You will handle sensitive and often complex employee relations matters, including investigations, accommodation cases, and responses to legal claims. In this position, you will work closely with field leadership and legal stakeholders to resolve issues, lower organizational risk, and support a healthy workplace culture. The role suits someone who works well in structured, fast-moving, purpose-driven environments and who can balance confidentiality, sound judgment, and consistency.
Key accountabilities
- Own employee relations matters from intake through resolution, including complaints related to harassment, discrimination, and violence, while ensuring each case is handled promptly.
- Carry out impartial, thorough, and legally defensible investigations, and keep documentation complete, accurate, and ready for audit review in case management systems.
- Support and guide the accommodation process from an interactive standpoint, ensuring alignment with human rights and employment legislation.
- Work with legal and operational leaders to evaluate and respond to external claims and employment disputes.
- Review case data to spot recurring themes and broader risk areas, then escalate issues that call for changes in organizational practice.
- Provide coaching, training, and practical guidance to managers so they can strengthen employee relations handling and improve compliance awareness.
- Prepare recurring reports and summaries for internal stakeholders covering case patterns, risk exposure, and opportunities for improvement.
Required profile
- At least 3 to 5+ years of experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, accommodations, or a similar HR role within a multi-site organization.
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment law; familiarity with U.S. regulations is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage confidential, high-stakes workplace issues with maturity, discretion, and sound decision-making.
- Fluent bilingual communication skills in English and French, both written and verbal, are mandatory.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities, including the capacity to evaluate evidence and form defensible recommendations.
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage several demands at once and meet tight deadlines.
- Comfort working independently in a remote setting and being accountable for outcomes.
- Experience with case management platforms and digital tools, including AI-assisted tools, is advantageous.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- HR certification such as CPHR, SPHR, or PHR is a strong asset.
Benefits and compensation
- Annual salary range of CAD 77,193 to CAD 114,247, depending on experience.
- Comprehensive health coverage and extended benefits for eligible employees.
- Employer-paid life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
- RRSP plan with employer-matching contributions.
- Paid time off to support rest, personal life, and overall wellbeing.
- Access to mental health and wellness resources.
- Structured onboarding and training from the first day.
- Ongoing learning through an internal learning platform and development programs.
- Remote flexibility anywhere in Canada, with emphasis on Eastern regions.
Application and hiring process
The application is reviewed through an AI-assisted matching process designed to screen candidates against the role’s core requirements in a fair and efficient way. A shortlist of strong matches is then shared with the hiring company, which handles interviews, assessments, and final hiring decisions internally.
Privacy and data use
By applying, you agree that the hiring partner may process your personal information to assess your candidacy and share relevant details with the employer. This is done under legitimate interest and pre-contractual measures where applicable, including GDPR-based rights such as access, correction, deletion, and objection. AI tools may also be used to support parts of the review process, such as resume screening and response analysis, but final decisions are made by people.
