Job description
Role Overview
Singapore Airlines’ SIA Engineering Division is looking for a candidate to join the Material Management Department in a purchasing-focused role. The person selected will help keep material supply flowing smoothly by managing procurement activities, monitoring inventory needs, and coordinating with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle pending purchase requisitions in SAP and move them through the buying process.
- Identify suppliers offering the most favorable pricing and stock availability.
- Push back on vendor price increases that go beyond the terms of the Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSAA), Supplier Support Conditions (SSC), or Buyer Furnished Equipment (BFE) arrangements.
- Raise purchase orders in a timely manner so that spare parts remain available for operations.
- Assess chemicals, bulk materials, change kits, and spare parts inventory by reviewing stock levels, usage patterns, and replenishment lead times to maintain the right inventory balance.
- Monitor delivery progress against stated lead times and follow up until all purchase orders are completed.
- Work with vendors to make sure delivery timing supports operational needs and post-sale service commitments.
- Investigate and close delivery-related discrepancy reports for spare parts.
- Check open price variances and resolve them quickly so supplier invoices are not delayed.
- Keep price variances from becoming overdue by continuously reviewing and tracking them.
- Maintain adequate spare parts availability to avoid task card withdrawals.
- Periodically review spare parts against task card requirements.
- Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) when required.
Requirements
- A diploma is required, preferably in an engineering discipline.
- Working knowledge of SAP is essential, including the ability to use SQ01, MB51, and MMBE.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint; pivot tables should be usable for trend analysis and for preparing presentation materials.
- Ability to support commercial negotiations for fixed-price arrangements.
- Experience and understanding of Material Management operations, administration, and procedures will be an advantage.
- Comfortable speaking directly with vendors and line engineers on the shop floor.
- Good communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Self-driven, motivated, and proactive.
- Works well in a team while also being capable of handling tasks independently.
- Able to stay effective under pressure.
- Must be open to shift work.
