Role Summary
This full-time, on-site position in Hervey Bay requires an experienced grower responsible for daily care of nursery plants, including propagation, planting, watering, fertilizing, pruning, and controlling pests and diseases. The role includes monitoring plant health, maintaining optimal growing conditions, and ensuring plants are prepared and presented for retail sales according to quality standards. Collaboration with the team to plan production cycles, manage stock levels, and assist with seasonal display setups forms part of the duties. Interaction with customers to provide plant selection guidance and maintaining safe, clean, and orderly work areas is also expected.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Proficient practical horticultural experience in plant propagation, watering, fertilizing, and pruning.
- Competence in monitoring plant health and addressing pest and disease issues within nursery settings.
- Capability to organize and manage growing schedules while maintaining inventory and plant retail readiness.
- Basic understanding of safe chemical usage, machinery operation, and adherence to workplace health and safety standards.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities to effectively engage with customers and coworkers.
- Physical fitness to handle manual labor including lifting, bending, and exposure to outdoor weather variations.
- Experience in commercial nurseries, horticulture, or landscaping environments is favorable.
- Possession of relevant horticultural certifications is beneficial but not mandatory.
