Overview

Hopewell Private Game Reserve seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Field Guide to join their team in Alexandria, Eastern Cape, South Africa. This permanent role involves delivering immersive wildlife experiences in a luxury private game reserve, combining exceptional guiding, conservation, and personalized guest service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead guided game drives and bush activities ensuring guest safety and professionalism.
  • Provide engaging and educational wildlife interpretation for guests.
  • Contribute to an authentic, memorable safari experience through exceptional hospitality.
  • Track wildlife and monitor animal activity using fieldcraft and ecological knowledge.
  • Support conservation projects and promote ethical wildlife viewing.
  • Conduct daily checks and maintenance for safari vehicles and equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols with risk assessments and emergency response during safari activities.
  • Assist with lodge operation tasks, including guest hosting, maintenance, and transfers.
  • Complete and maintain accurate administrative records related to guiding, vehicle use, and sightings.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • FGASA qualification and DEAT registration.
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) and First Aid certification.
  • Prior experience guiding in private game reserves or safari lodges.
  • In-depth knowledge of local wildlife, ecology, and conservation principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Capability to operate in remote, bush environments.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Trails Guide certification.
  • Rifle competency.
  • Expertise in birding.
  • Experience in luxury safari lodge operations.
  • Photography or videography skills.
