Overview

Sealord Group Ltd, a leading seafood company in the Southern Hemisphere with over 60 years in fishing, farming, processing, and marketing, is hiring for the 2026 Hoki season based in Nelson, New Zealand. The company is partly owned by Māori through Moana New Zealand and globally connected via Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. This short-term seasonal role offers an opportunity to join a diverse and cooperative team in a land-based factory during the hoki season from May to September 2026.

Work Schedule and Shifts

  • The processing plant operates 24/7 with shifts across the week.
  • Employees will typically work 30 to 40 hours weekly over five days, Monday through Sunday.
  • Shift options include Day (6am–2:30pm), Afternoon (2pm–10pm), and Night (10pm–6am).
  • Overtime may occasionally be available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacturing fish products according to established standards.
  • Packing fish into designated portions.
  • Trimming fish fillets with training provided.
  • Cleaning production line equipment and work areas as needed.

Candidate Requirements

  • Willingness to acquire new skills and adhere strictly to Health and Safety policies.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced factory setting and as a team member.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Physical capability to lift 5-10 kg regularly.
  • Comfortable handling fish, including the use of sharp knives (training offered; no prior knife skills required).
  • Ability to work in a cool environment and no allergies to fish.
  • No specific educational or experience qualifications needed as full training is provided.

Compensation Details

  • Hourly base rate of $23.96 NZD.
  • Additional $11.05 NZD per shift for afternoon shifts.
  • Additional $15.15 NZD per shift for night shifts.

Additional Information

  • Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug test and physical medical examination.
  • Eligibility to live and work legally in New Zealand is mandatory.
