Role overview
The Bench General Manager position at Office Depot and OfficeMax is responsible for shaping the store’s customer experience and sales culture. This role is designed for experienced leaders who can prepare to step into future General Manager openings through a bench and training program.
What you will do
- Take ownership of sales performance and actively look for opportunities to grow revenue.
- Create store-level plans and actions that support sales, service, and operational targets.
- Drive profit by focusing on the business priorities that matter most.
- Oversee associate training and development, including coaching, feedback, and counseling to build strong talent.
- Inspire the team to deliver a customer-first environment and a positive shopping experience.
- Strengthen customer loyalty, retention, relationships, and brand awareness.
- Handle hiring, merchandising, store operations, execution of company standards, and resolution of associate and customer concerns.
- Manage performance for all team members.
- Build connections in the local community through networking and relationship-building.
- Support change initiatives and help lead the organization through transitions.
Important role details

In some major metropolitan markets, the company may hire more candidates than immediately needed and place selected General Manager candidates into a bench or training program until a position becomes available. Pay and benefits
This position pays between $24.00 and $25.50 per hour, with compliance to all applicable state and local minimum wage laws, which may adjust the rate shown. The company also offers a competitive benefits package, including a 401(k), and opportunities to grow within the organization. Employees may also be eligible for an incentive program under the terms of the Incentive Plan.
