Role Overview

This newly created role is based in Christchurch or Auckland and is designed to help steer the company's learning, talent, and capability efforts on a national scale. The Group Learning and Talent Manager will develop and implement frameworks to support skill development, leadership growth, career pathways, and internal talent pipelines across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a national approach to learning, talent, and capability aligned with the company's People & Culture strategy and five-year plan.
  • Create a practical capability roadmap addressing future workforce needs and critical roles.
  • Collaborate with operational, commercial, and regional leaders to define role competencies and leadership standards.
  • Lead leadership development programs in partnership with external providers across various business levels.
  • Enhance talent management, succession planning, and personal development processes to support high-potential staff.
  • Improve early career programs such as cadetships and apprenticeships to strengthen the future workforce.
  • Develop career pathways and competency frameworks for key roles within the business.
  • Manage learning systems, governance, reporting, and practical use of technology and AI to enhance training effectiveness.
  • Ensure training linked to operational, commercial, and Health & Safety requirements meets compliance and performance needs.
  • Partner with external bodies, education providers, and industry organizations to bolster the company's talent pipeline.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an experienced learning and talent leader capable of translating strategy into actionable development plans. They must effectively engage with senior leaders, operational teams, and stakeholders, balancing strategic vision with hands-on program delivery. The role requires someone who values simplicity, practical solutions, and has a strong understanding of construction or related sectors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Eight to ten years in learning, capability, organisational development, or talent roles.
  • Proven ability to lead enterprise-wide capability and talent initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of leadership development, succession planning, and career framework design.
  • Experience with competency modeling and capability frameworks.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, governance, and analytics.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Commercial awareness linking learning investments to business outcomes.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Organisation Development, Adult Education, Psychology, Business, or related field.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, engineering, or project-driven environments is highly desired.
  • Background with apprenticeships, cadetships, or early career development programs is advantageous.
