Position Overview

Reporting to the Sous Chef or Kitchen Shift Supervisor, the First Cook supports meal preparation of various hot and cold dishes for both hotel guests and event attendees. This role involves serving both internal and external customers during assigned shifts, ensuring all safety and hygiene standards are maintained. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, and concentration for extended periods. Leadership qualities are required to guide and develop Kitchen Helpers as necessary. Occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds may be required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of three years continuous experience in a cook role with hands-on exposure to large-scale foodservice operations.
  • Post-secondary education in Hospitality or Culinary Management is advantageous.
  • Possession of a Health and Safety Certificate.
  • Experience in hotel and banquet food and beverage service is beneficial, including basic knowledge of inventory control and food cost management practices.
  • Proven versatility in preparing and cooking a broad range of cuisines.
  • Capable of thriving both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in a physically demanding, high-volume, fast-paced, multitasking kitchen setting.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent knife skills with a willingness and capacity to learn further culinary techniques.
  • Availability to work all shifts, inclusive of weekends.
