Job description

Department Overview

This role is within the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) Human Resources unit, which serves as the central support for workforce management, consultation, and HR services across the department. The unit focuses on aligning talent strategies with business goals, managing the employee lifecycle, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and facilitating organizational development and employee retention.

Work Arrangement

The position offers a weekly hybrid schedule with a minimum of 2 days onsite and up to 3 days remote work. These arrangements may change as needed.

Role Purpose and Duties

The HR Technician III provides technical assistance and guidance to HR personnel and department employees regarding personnel actions and position data. This includes timely, accurate data entry across multiple HR information systems, onboarding new employees, facilitating orientation, managing personnel data, and supporting employee-related projects. The position emphasizes excellent customer service, adherence to established procedures, and training of new team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the creation of State ID badges for CDHS staff, ensuring new hire and reprint badges meet standards.
  • Manage badge inventory and maintain accurate badge templates in collaboration with vendors.
  • Review, verify, and process Personnel Action Forms (PAFs) for completeness and compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in personnel data and maintain confidentiality of records.
  • Accurately input data into HR systems, monitor employment statuses, and produce reliable reports.
  • Adapt quickly to new HR systems and processes as implemented.
  • Provide expert guidance on operational HR procedures and forms to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate pre-employment background checks and manage I-9 verification via E-Verify+, following up on compliance.
  • Deliver professional customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and handling complaints tactfully.
  • Welcome new hires during orientation and foster a respectful, positive environment.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including training and special assignments for growth.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications

One of the following is required:

  • At least three years of relevant full-time experience conducting high-volume, precise data entry with attention to thoroughness and accuracy.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience equaling three years, demonstrating strong customer service, prioritization skills, and data accuracy in a fast-paced setting.

Relevant higher education may substitute for work experience on a year-for-year basis and vice versa.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience working in or with HR teams.
  • Proven accuracy in data entry roles.
  • Handling confidential employment records.
  • Familiarity with G-suite applications and AppSheets.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competency in multiple HR information systems.
  • Professionalism with strict confidentiality maintenance.
  • Ability to remain adaptable in dynamic work environments.
  • Self-motivation, initiative, multitasking abilities, and meeting deadlines effectively.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Innovative approach to resolving complex interpersonal and procedural challenges.
  • State service experience weighted favorably during selection processes.

Conditions of Employment

  • Background screening including criminal history, court databases, professional licenses, and drug screening where applicable.
  • Applicants must be Colorado residents at application time and continue residency throughout employment.
  • Occasional travel required for meetings at off-site locations.
  • Disclosure obligations and potential disqualification apply for former State employees with disciplinary issues.
