Position Overview

The Junior Accountant will play an essential role within the Finance & Settlements department as a full-time permanent employee based on-site in Toronto, ON. This role involves supporting daily accounting operations, preparing financial reports, conducting reconciliations, handling tax filings, managing accounts receivable, and contributing to audits and cash management. The position also entails financial analysis to aid strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze accounts receivable reports, monitor collections, and process payment receipts.
  • Conduct bookkeeping tasks and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Record journal entries and ensure the general ledger's accuracy.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and corporate reports; analyze specific accounts or transactions as needed.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reporting packages, including financial statements, budget variance analysis, and balance sheet reviews.
  • Carry out corporate tax filings such as HST, payroll taxes, and T4 preparation.
  • Prepare schedules, perform reconciliations, manage foreign exchange translations, execute cut-off procedures, and assist external auditors with documentation.
  • Understand business processes to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Support routine management reviews evaluating the financial soundness of the subsidiary.
  • Assist with managing cash operations.
  • Provide transparent financial information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Complete ad hoc reporting and special projects as requested by management.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor's degree or college diploma in accounting, business, finance, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of accrual accounting and experience working with multiple currencies.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication abilities.
  • Capability to collaborate with staff across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized educational background in accounting.
  • One to two years of experience covering full-cycle accounting.
  • Enrollment or completion in the CPA designation program.
