Role Responsibilities
The Lab Processing Assistant will handle pre-analytic specimen processing, operate various laboratory and office machines, input test requests into laboratory information systems, and handle a high volume of telephone inquiries regarding lab tests. The role requires ensuring accurate patient identification on specimens and documentation, resolving any pre-analytic specimen issues, and providing vital assistance within the laboratory team. Additional duties may include complex reagent preparation, inventory management of supplies, operation of automated laboratory systems, and training of new staff members.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of an Associate's degree or High School diploma/equivalent with at least 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory or comparable experience.
- Preferred an Associate's degree in a health or science-related discipline.
- Experience or familiarity with computer systems, keyboarding, telephone handling, and other office equipment.
- Ability to accurately read specimen labels and manage numerical data to avoid mislabeling.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to accommodate scheduling changes including off-shifts, holidays, and weekends.
- Attention to detail and adherence to strict safety protocols involving chemical, reagent, and infectious agent handling.
Additional Information
- This role is classified as nonexempt.
- The pay range is $20.00 to $25.59 per hour.
- Full-time schedule with 80 hours per pay period.
- Working hours are Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, with rotating weekend and holiday assignments.
- No international assignment opportunities are associated with this position.
- Visa sponsorship and participation in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program are not supported.
