Laboratory Assistant

About the Role

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant (float) in Toronto, Ontario. This part-time contract position is based onsite and supports laboratory and health services centers across North York, the GTA, Etobicoke, and Woodbridge. The role is designed for someone who can combine technical accuracy with compassionate patient care, helping deliver a smooth and reassuring experience during what can often be a stressful visit for patients.

Work Schedule and Assignment Details

What the Role Involves

In this position, you will handle blood samples and other laboratory specimens, enter requisitions and results with care and precision, and help maintain an efficient workflow. You will also support patients through a service approach that emphasizes empathy, kindness, and professionalism, while contributing to timely and accurate testing processes that can directly affect patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver a positive, patient-centered experience when interacting with clients and explaining products or services.
• Enter patient details, test information, and Ministry of Health requisitions accurately.
• Collect blood samples and other specimens using proper venipuncture practices aligned with Dynacare standards.
• Sort and direct specimens, and carry out ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity testing, urine collection, drug screening, and breath alcohol collection.
• Prepare specimens and related paperwork according to SOPs so they are ready for data entry and transport to the laboratory.
• Follow approved procedures for both acceptable and unsuitable samples.
• Protect confidential information and maintain secure handling of sensitive records.
• Support departmental and corporate quality targets, compliance requirements, and performance indicators.

What You Need

• Secondary school completion plus either a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistant program with specialized phlebotomy training.
• Hands-on phlebotomy ability and confidence in working with nervous or anxious patients in a calm, supportive way.
• A customer-first mindset with genuine concern for patient well-being.
• Strong organization and the ability to manage priorities independently in a deadline-driven setting.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken, sufficient to explain instructions clearly and simply to patients.
• MLPAO/CSMLS certification is highly preferred.

Compensation

• Hourly pay: $20.00 to $23.75
