About The Role

The Cahill Group's fabrication division, Cahill Fabrication Structural, is seeking Labourers to join their team in Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador. The position involves supporting daily operations in a steel fabrication shop environment. Labourers assist various tradespeople, manage materials, help maintain cleanliness and safety, prepare products for shipment, and perform general shop duties as assigned. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, teamwork, and meticulous attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist welders, fitters, machine operators, and other fabrication staff with daily tasks as directed by the Shop Supervisor.
  • Follow basic work instructions, shop paperwork, labels, and directives from supervisors or lead personnel.
  • Sort, organize, and stage materials, parts, scrap, consumables, and finished goods for production and shipping.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, and other equipment only after receiving appropriate training and authorization.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety policies, safe work practices, PPE usage, and cleanliness standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform general labour tasks to support production and shipping needs, including yard and shop cleanup.
  • Wrap, pack, bundle, band, label, and protect items to safeguard against damage during handling and transportation, using correct packing materials such as skids, pallets, dunnage, straps, and banding.
  • Help stage completed orders in designated shipping locations.
  • Additional certifications such as WHMIS, forklift operation, overhead crane usage, rigging, or first aid training are advantageous but not mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within a fabrication or manufacturing environment is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic shop drawings and work instructions.
  • A strong commitment to safety and quality standards is essential.

Additional Information

  • Employment is governed by the FFAW/Unifor Collective Agreement, including wage rates, premiums, and benefits.
  • The hourly wage for this position is $18.87.
  • Work schedule is Friday through Monday.
