Role Overview
This leadership position focuses on overseeing capital expenditure (Capex) finance functions, including budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and cost control for projects. The role is based in Mundra, Gujarat, and aims to ensure financial discipline, support strategic investment decisions, and enable efficient fund utilization aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate comprehensive capex and operating expenditure plans with detailed financial models that align with strategic priorities.
- Validate project-related financial assumptions covering costs, timelines, and revenue impacts, ensuring performance meets benchmarks like Payback Period, IRR, and ROCE.
- Integrate risk buffers and conduct scenario analyses to enhance planning reliability and decision confidence.
- Track short and long-term cash flows to optimize fund availability and allocation in collaboration with Treasury.
- Supervise vendor invoicing, Letter of Credit usage, and advance payments to maintain strict financial discipline and avoid working capital issues.
- Deploy efficient fund tracking and reporting systems to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Aggregate financial and operational data from projects into structured, periodic reports for leadership and stakeholders, automating these processes where feasible.
- Lead cost governance by performing variance analyses, flagging budget deviations, and initiating timely corrective actions.
- Prepare quarterly KPI reports to provide leadership with financial performance visibility and enable proactive risk management.
- Implement and monitor internal financial controls; address any overspending or budget breaches effectively.
- Support contract negotiations with analytical and financial inputs to align procurements with cost optimization goals.
- Evaluate and adjust Capex BOQs and budget estimates alongside project and finance teams; facilitate commercial discussions with cost insight and optimization advice.
- Assess vendor quotations for commercial viability, benchmark costs, and recommend value engineering strategies to maximize deal value.
- Utilize financial modeling to guide strategic procurement and vendor selection decisions.
- Monitor actual financial project performance throughout execution and post-completion to ensure meeting projected returns.
- Compile detailed project closure reports consistent with Detailed Project Report standards, highlighting financial metrics, findings, and variances.
- Report significant financial deviations or performance issues to leadership for prompt review and action planning.
- Collaborate closely with technical, commercial, project management, and FP&A teams to harmonize Capex parameters, manage risks, and implement mitigation approaches.
- Ensure the Head of CFMC participates in all relevant meetings with CFO-level data access for informed capex decision-making.
- Drive the full Capex lifecycle—from budget approval through execution tracking to final project closure—ensuring compliance with governance and internal policies.
- Facilitate cross-functional communication to expedite issue resolution and promote a unified Capex management approach.
Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant, ICWA, or MBA with a finance background from a recognized institute; CFA Level 2 preferred.
- PMP or additional MBA in Finance is advantageous.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in site finance control, capital financial planning, project finance, or corporate finance.
