About EY

EY is a global professional services firm focused on helping people and organizations build their future with confidence and contribute to a better working world. You will join a connected, diverse environment with opportunities to grow your career across teams and geographies.

Role overview

EY is looking for a Manager to join its Climate Change and Sustainability Services practice. This is the largest sustainability consulting team in Oceania, supporting major organizations across New Zealand and Australia on sustainability and climate-related challenges. The team advises clients on ESG strategy, impact measurement, climate risk, decarbonisation, human rights, modern slavery, and both advisory and assurance engagements. The current focus is on reporting and assurance work.

The position is hybrid and based in Auckland or Wellington. Flexible working options, including reduced hours, may be available and can be discussed.

Key responsibilities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team serving clients across several industries on the management and disclosure of sustainability and climate-related risks and impacts.
  • Lead engagement teams and support the development of team members through coaching and guidance.
  • Plan and coordinate project work, maintaining clear communication with clients, engagement teams, and senior stakeholders so that deadlines are met and deliverables remain high quality.
  • Deliver assurance services for non-financial reporting, including sustainability metrics, emissions, and energy data.
  • Advise clients on building and executing non-financial reporting approaches, including sustainability metrics, emissions, and energy reporting.
  • Help develop strategies, methods, analytical tools, and frameworks that support clients in navigating regulation and stakeholder expectations.
  • Support clients in creating and implementing sustainability strategies, setting targets, and rolling out plans across areas such as diversity, waste, modern slavery, and environmental impact.
  • Contribute to climate scenario analysis to help assess climate risks and opportunities and shape short- and long-term management objectives.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in climate change and sustainability, with a genuine desire to deepen expertise in the field.
  • Background in professional services or consulting.
  • University-level qualification in a quantitative discipline such as engineering, mathematics, science, commerce, accounting, business, or physics.
  • Prior experience in climate change services, whether in consulting, industry, or government.
  • Experience with greenhouse gas accounting.
  • Proven exposure to reporting and/or assurance for greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Working knowledge of New Zealand's climate reporting regime.
  • Awareness of the Australian Accounting Standards Board S2 requirements.
  • Experience leading teams and coaching or developing colleagues.
  • Exposure to climate and nature disclosure work, including familiarity with TCFD and TNFD frameworks.
  • Knowledge of decarbonisation methods, climate risk, and climate strategy.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt on the job, ask good questions, and pursue strong client outcomes.

What EY offers

  • Career development opportunities designed to help you shape your own path with future-focused skills and global experience.
  • Flexible working practices that support balance between personal and professional commitments.
  • A benefits package that includes a yearly wellness incentive, access to up to 8 additional weeks of flex leave per year, and family-friendly policies such as up to 26 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave.
  • A competitive salary, negotiable based on skills and experience.
