Job description

About the Role

The Manager for Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) in Mechanical is responsible for overseeing and executing quality assurance and control functions on-site. This role ensures that all mechanical fabrication and installation activities strictly adhere to project specifications, relevant codes, and industry standards. Key duties include conducting frequent inspections, collaborating with the project execution team, managing QA/QC documentation, and upholding safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regular on-site inspections and tests on materials and construction work to verify adherence to quality standards and project specifications.
  • Implement and oversee project-specific Quality Control Plans (QCP) and Inspection Test Plans (ITP) for all mechanical activities.
  • Ensure that all testing equipment is properly calibrated and verified, meeting all applicable standards.
  • Document and report any non-conformities or deviations from the approved design and specifications, initiating and tracking corrective and preventive actions to resolution.
  • Liaise with subcontractors and site engineers to ensure quality requirements are clearly communicated and consistently followed during the execution phase.

Key Interactions

Internal Stakeholders

  • Site Execution Engineers: To align on quality matters, conduct inspections, and resolve technical discrepancies during project execution.
  • Planning & Project Control Team: To update quality milestones, report on material testing progress, and integrate quality activities with the project schedule.

External Stakeholders

  • Clients / Client Representatives: For obtaining approvals on materials, conducting joint quality inspections, and participating in final handovers.
  • Subcontractors: To supervise their adherence to site-specific testing protocols and established quality benchmarks.

Knowledge and Experience

Knowledge

  • Minimum Educational Qualification: ITI, Diploma, B.E., or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in spoken and written English and Hindi; knowledge of a regional language is advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 15 to 20 years of professional experience.
  • Specialized experience in mechanical QA/QC within industrial construction projects, with a strong background in implementing and supervising quality control procedures and site-specific testing protocols.

Skills Required

Technical Skills

  • In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering principles and relevant industry codes (e.g., ASME, API).
  • Proficiency in mechanical material testing methodologies and the interpretation of test results.
  • Expertise in equipment calibration and verification processes.
  • Strong engineering knowledge applicable to mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
  • Competence in performing technical inspections and quality audits.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Proficiency in risk management techniques.
