Tunnel Design Engineer (Rock Mechanics)

Role Overview

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Tunnel Design Engineer with a strong background in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering. The role focuses on designing and reviewing underground and slope-related structures, with hands-on use of engineering analysis software and close attention to constructability and site conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out detailed engineering for foundations, embankments, open-cut slopes, retaining systems, and reinforced earth walls.
• Run geotechnical and structural analyses for tunnel projects using tools such as PLAXIS, FLAC3D, RS2, STAAD, and MIDAS.
• Create support systems for tunnels, including rock bolts, shotcrete, steel ribs, lattice girders, waterproofing arrangements, and segmental linings.
• Assess stability, deformation behavior, and the interaction between ground conditions and support measures.
• Design underground caverns, intake structures, surge shafts, penstocks, adits, and related components.
• Study geotechnical investigation outputs and apply them correctly in design assumptions.
• Draft technical documentation based on design basis memorandums, applicable codes, geotechnical interpretation reports, and in-situ test findings.
• Examine consultant or client drawings, verify constructability against actual site conditions, and prepare construction methodologies from detailed drawings and technical specifications.

Technical Scope

This position combines rock mechanics, underground structure design, geotechnical interpretation, and design review for complex civil and infrastructure works.
