Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a reliable survey control network across the full project footprint, including horizontal and vertical control points.
  • Set up and preserve permanent benchmarks for critical structures such as the dam, tunnels, pressure shaft, caverns, and powerhouse.
  • Keep control stations accurate and stable throughout the life of the project.
  • Carry out precise setting-out for dam and spillway works, intake structures, HRT, TRT, adits, surge shaft, pressure shaft/tunnel, powerhouse, transformer cavern, and penstock alignment.
  • Ensure construction execution stays aligned with design coordinates, levels, profiles, and alignments.
  • Perform underground alignment checks, deformation/convergence monitoring, overbreak and underbreak assessments, and verification of crown, wall, and invert positions.
  • Confirm that tunnel breakthrough from multiple headings stays within acceptable tolerance.
  • Support installation of hydro-mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment by providing accurate alignment for penstocks, steel liners, bifurcations, turbine runner, draft tube, spiral case, generator stator, rotor centreline, EOT cranes, and monorails.
  • Maintain the precision standards required by OEMs.
  • Conduct topographic and as-built surveys for excavation quantities, valley/riverside/hill terrain, underground cavities, and penstock or pipeline routing.
  • Prepare as-built drawings for completed work packages.
  • Measure earthwork, rock excavation, backfilling, and concrete quantities, and assist with billing checks for contractors and subcontractors.
  • Monitor settlement or movement of the dam body, powerhouse, pressure shaft, and underground tunnels, and escalate abnormal displacement to engineering or safety teams.
  • Ensure survey instruments remain calibrated, maintained, and functioning accurately.
  • Work with modern survey tools such as total stations, DGPS, LiDAR, and tunnel profilers.
  • Follow BIS/IS standards, project tolerances, OEM alignment requirements, and site safety procedures for underground areas, steep terrain, and restricted zones.

Qualifications and experience

  • A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering is considered an added advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D tools, and other related software is expected.
  • The role calls for at least 12 years of experience in underground hydro or PSP projects.
