Job description

Role Overview

This opportunity involves serving as a Mechanical Engineer focused on data centers within Germany, contributing to the creation of advanced AI infrastructure on a global scale. The role entails providing expert mechanical engineering input across the lifecycle of data center acquisition, development, and construction readiness, ensuring complex mechanical systems and cooling infrastructure for high-density AI environments are optimally evaluated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute mechanical engineering assessments for potential data center locations, colocation, and custom build projects.
  • Perform technical due diligence centered on cooling capacity, mechanical system feasibility, and infrastructure preparedness.
  • Evaluate various cooling configurations including liquid cooling, air cooling, hybrid models, chillers, and CRAH/CRAC systems specially designed for AI and hyperscale workloads.
  • Provide well-founded technical advice along with Go/No-Go recommendations based on mechanical viability, project risks, and operational demands.
  • Define mechanical assumptions relevant to capacity planning, project budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop cooling topologies, equipment strategies, redundancy plans, and enforce mechanical design criteria.
  • Oversee integration of Building Management Systems (BMS), commissioning processes, equipment availability, and vendor limitations.
  • Maintain mechanical design intent and specifications throughout acquisition to construction delivery stages.
  • Create technical readiness protocols, evaluation standards, and repeatable methods for infrastructure analysis.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, consulting engineers, suppliers, and commissioning teams to ensure project success.

Candidate Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in mechanical engineering roles related to data centers, MEP design, or mission-critical mechanical infrastructure.
  • Expertise in designing cooling topologies, managing liquid cooling systems, chiller operations, and CRAH/CRAC configurations.
  • Proven background in assessing mechanical feasibility for data centers before committing to commercial projects.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical capacity planning, equipment choices, redundancy systems, and capital investment considerations.
  • Experience in hyperscale data centers, AI infrastructure, or large-scale tech environments is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge in BMS controls integration and mechanical commissioning procedures.
  • Familiarity with due diligence for colocation or build-to-suit facilities is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or possessing equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present complex engineering concepts to executives.
  • Capability to handle multiple priorities independently and collaborate in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or an equivalent certification is a plus.

Benefits

  • Attractive compensation package offered.
  • Flexible remote-first work environment promoting autonomy and ownership.
  • Opportunities for career advancement and continuous professional development.
  • Work on impactful, large-scale AI infrastructure projects with international reach.
  • Collaborative and diverse global engineering teams.
  • Engagement in defining technical standards and processes steering future infrastructure expansion.
  • An innovative culture emphasizing trust, responsibility, and significant contributions.
