About the Role
Macy's seeks a Merchandise Planning Associate who will take charge of setting and managing financial objectives for sales, margins, and receipts across channels and departments. This role involves translating overarching financial goals into actionable plans at the department level, working closely with Buyers to develop monthly detailed financial builds that align with product category strategies. The Associate will also maintain rolling sales and inventory forecasts during the season and collaborate with Inventory Managers to monitor product flows and mitigate risk.
Responsibilities
- Convert top-level financial goals into department-specific targets.
- Partner with Buyers to craft monthly bottom-up sales, margin, and inventory plans aligned with category strategies.
- Construct and maintain in-season rolling operating forecasts for sales, margin, and stock.
- Compile weekly inventory forecasts gathering data from Buyers and Inventory Managers, including vendor shipping updates.
- Support classification of stores into volume clusters by division and department.
- Manage Open-to-Buy budgets by department jointly with Buyers.
- Monitor channel-specific business outcomes, identifying key insights and potential opportunities.
- Evaluate inventory levels against monthly beginning, receipt, and ending plans to assess business health.
- Analyze potential risks and prospects related to parameters like allocations, markdowns, and promotions to achieve financial objectives.
- Formulate actionable plans with Buyers to meet financial goals.
- Maintain department-level store cluster structures to align with financial plans.
- Cultivate a respectful and inclusive workplace culture fostering strong relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities.
- Ensure consistent attendance and timely presence at work.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in a related field.
- Minimum four years’ experience in financial or merchandise planning.
- Strong financial acumen including sales, margin, and receipt target setting.
- Expertise in forecasting including rolling operating forecasts and inventory management.
- Capability to collaborate efficiently with cross-functional teams such as Buyers and Inventory Managers.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to articulate insights and drive collaboration.
- Flexible work schedule adaptability based on business needs.
- Proficient use of office and digital tools required for information processing and workplace communication.
- Creative and strategic thinking skills for problem-solving and innovation aligned with business goals.
