Job description
About the role
The Trust & Safety team focuses on protecting Google users and products from abuse, fraud, and other threats to safety and integrity. This role is centered on messaging abuse prevention, working across teams to strengthen protections before and after product launches. You will combine analytical thinking, technical judgment, and cross-functional partnership to help keep the messaging ecosystem safe at scale.
You will work with engineers, product managers, and program managers across Google to investigate abuse patterns, improve enforcement signals, and respond quickly to emerging threats. The work supports user trust and safety across products and helps reduce risk in areas such as spam, fraud, and account abuse.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on professional experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in data analysis, including spotting patterns, producing summary metrics, and turning quantitative and qualitative data into insights.
- At least 5 years of experience leading projects and setting scope, goals, and delivery milestones.
Preferred qualifications
- 8 years of experience in signal development, data analysis, cybersecurity, or anti-abuse work.
- Programming experience in one or more languages such as Python or Golang.
- Experience working with complex engineering systems and operational processes.
- Background in fraud or abuse investigations, fraud risk management, security analysis, or threat analysis for internet, telecom, or communication products.
- Understanding of SMS, MMS, RCS, or SIM/phone number fraud and abuse.
- Strong communication and presentation ability, with experience influencing stakeholders across functions and seniority levels.
Key responsibilities
- Study new abuse trends, run advanced analyses, and identify signals that can support large-scale enforcement. Build a strong understanding of messaging abuse, existing cross-product workflows, and available intelligence sources.
- Convert abuse-prevention needs into data modeling work and develop prototypes that support detection and enforcement.
- Partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Program Management to create requirement documents backed by detailed analysis and product knowledge.
- Monitor threats actively, spot weaknesses in abuse detection, and continuously refine rules as patterns change. Help build real-time awareness and educate clients to reduce abuse earlier in the chain.
- Drive projects that protect Google infrastructure from misuse that could harm users or cause financial loss. Work with the carrier ecosystem to stop bad actors through corrective or preventive actions and fraud investigations.
