About Midlands State University and Position
Midlands State University invites applications for a full-time Mobile Developer role within the Information Technology Services Department, located in Gweru, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe. This role reports to the Software Engineer and targets qualified individuals with relevant experience in mobile app development.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum of two years’ experience developing mobile applications for iOS and Android platforms, including deployment to Apple App Store and Google Play Store using established mobile architecture patterns.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop clean, maintainable, and scalable code for native (iOS/Android) or cross-platform applications using frameworks such as Flutter and React Native.
- Convert designer wireframes, prototypes, and mockups into precise and responsive user interfaces.
- Integrate mobile apps with backend services, databases, and third-party APIs through RESTful or GraphQL endpoints.
- Organize and structure codebases adopting scalable design patterns (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture, MVP).
- Diagnose and resolve application crashes, memory leaks, and performance issues to improve app reliability.
- Write unit, integration, and UI tests to maintain app stability and prevent regressions.
- Enhance resource efficiency including memory utilization, network operations, battery life, and rendering speed to ensure low latency.
- Prepare, package, and submit apps to Apple and Google app stores in compliance with platform standards.
- Update existing applications to accommodate new hardware, screen sizes, and OS releases for iOS and Android.
- Set up and maintain automated build, testing, and deployment pipelines using tools like Fastlane, GitHub Actions, and Bitrise.
- Implement robust security features such as local data encryption, OAuth2-based authentication, and secure HTTPS/TLS data exchanges.
- Work collaboratively within Agile/Scrum teams alongside product managers, UX designers, backend developers, and quality assurance personnel.
- Maintain thorough documentation covering code, system architecture, API specifications, and deployment workflows.
